A Personal Explanation of BCC

Building Code College (BCC) was created to make building code education clearer, more practical, and more accessible.
I’m Glenn Mathewson — a building code professional, educator, and consultant. I started Building Code College in 2012 while working as a city building inspector and teaching codes in person whenever I could. I saw a consistent gap between how codes are written, how they’re enforced, and how they’re understood in the field. I set out to make my approach to teaching less limited by my work schedule through creation of on demand courses, but first I would have to create a place to share them.
Too often, code education focuses on memorization instead of comprehension. My goal has always been different: to teach the intent and purpose behind code provisions, using real-world examples that help professionals apply the code correctly and confidently.
Building Code College is intentionally simple. There are no ads, no distractions, and no filler content. Every course is designed to respect your time and focus on what matters — understanding the code and using it effectively.
Today, Building Code College offers on-demand courses and live webinar education covering a range of construction and building code topics. I also work directly with professional organizations and ICC chapters to provide hosted education services, including webinars, registration, payment processing, and issuance of ICC-approved continuing education certificates.
While Building Code College began as a vision for a broader online campus for code educators, it currently reflects my personal commitment to delivering high-quality instruction. As the platform grows, that original vision remains — but quality and clarity always come first.
