Description: The IRC provides substantial provisions for attaching a deck ledger to a wood framed house, but only after you’re looking at the wall sheathing. Before this, the exterior cladding must be removed, and that creates a whole mess of variables and variety. From cement board to engineered wood to vinyl siding and anchored veneer, hardly any ledger connection will be the same. Don’t forget the flashing that must work with the ledger, water-resistive barrier, exterior cladding, and even the joists. Learn how the IRC addresses cladding terminations and clearances at decks and ledger flashing, including a sneak peak at all new flashing codes coming in the 2024 edition.
